The annual Rivers State Carnival, Carniriv will not hold this year. The Special Adviser to Governor Wike on Religious Affairs, Winstop Iwo announced that Carniriv will be replaced by a praise event to be known as the Rivers Praise and Choral Night.
Bishop Iwo said that Carniriv showcases masquerades and idols and so cannot continue to
hold in the state. He said the Rivers and Choral Night will hold on December 19, at the Yakubu
Gowon Stadium.
The Rivers State Tourism Development Agency had already begun preparations for the 2016
edition of Carniriv, even running a logo and theme song competition which was advertised to the
public. The 2016 edition was to be the fourth Carniriv organized by Sam Dede, and his final one, according to his mandate as head of the Rivers State Tourism Development Agency.

Alamieyeseigha was like a god – Amassoma monarch #Nekxfresh
Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha represented a dispensation in the political history of Bayelsa State. His death, penultimate Saturday, at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, therefore, marks the end of an era.
ALAMCO, as he was fondly called, a name gotten from his governorship campaign outfit, “Alamieyeseigha Campaign Organisation”, will be remembered as the doyen of modern Ijaw struggle after Harold Dappa Priye, Major Isaac Jasper Boro, and Chief Melford Obiene Okilo.
Alamieyeseigha’s emergence as the first democratically elected governor of Bayelsa, the only homogeneous Ijaw state in 1999, three years after its creation, meant that his place has already been secured in the annals of history of Bayelsa and Ijaw nation.
It was Alamieyeseigha that laid the foundation of the new Bayelsa State with Yenagoa as the capital almost from the scratch as Yenagoa was only a glorified local government headquarters with non infrastructure befitting for a state capital.
It was with such burden and high expectation that Alamieyeseigha assumed office as governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Alamieyeseigha, as a man of the people, knew where the shoe was pinching. He treated the development of the young state as an emergency. Before he was caught up in the web of high level political intrigues, which eventually led to his ouster from office in 2005, he had laid a solid foundation for the young state.
He constructed an ultra modern secretariat complex, established the state owned Niger Delta University, NDU, linked the riverside Amassoma community, which hosts the NDU with a road, expanded the narrow Mbiama-Yenagoa Road, which bifurcates Yenagoa, to a dual carriage road, started the 500-bed hospital project, which is yet to be completed, sent many young Bayelsans on scholarship abroad to meet the manpower needs of the young state, among others.
Also to solve housing challenges, he reclaimed a vast swathe of marshy land at the Opolo suburb to build a befitting estate for Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries. And for the other cadre of the civil service, he built the Azikoro Housing Estate to cater for many of them shuttling between Yenagoa and Port Harcourt due to accommodation problem in the young state.
Perhaps, it won’t be wrong to say that no other Ijaw politician commands the kind of wide acceptance and popularity across the Ijaw nation like Alamieyeseigha.
The former governor was a charismatic leader; he commanded great followership. He was loved and admired by his people. As Bayelsa chief helmsman, Alamieyeseigha was humane and ran a welfarist government with particular emphasis on poverty alleviation and empowerment. Ironically, his welfare policies and generosity were misconstrued for profligacy.
His personality exudes confidence of a great leader. Even in his trying times, Alamieyeseigha was always cheerful and beaming with smiles.
His humility and undying love for his people was exhibited on several occasions when he ventured, at the risk to his life, to secure the release of foreign oil workers taken hostage on high seas by aggrieved Ijaw youths. After his incarceration, he forgave those who were used to fight against him and became a unifying force among Ijaw political elites.
As a loyal party man, despite the travails that befell him, he continued to mobilize support for the PDP till death.
Sadness, tears in Alamieyeseigha’s home town
Things have not been the same at Amassoma, the home town of the former governor, and the entire Ijaw nation since Alamieyeseigha passed on.
Sunday Vanguard visit to Amassoma showed a mourning community. The town was a shadow of itself.
The expansive compound of the deceased was quiet, devoid of activities except for family members seen coming in and going out.
At the time of this report, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Margaret Alamieyeseigha, and children, were still residing at their home in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The security guard at the country home said nobody was around and that all the family members of his boss were in Port Harcourt. “You cannot go in because there is nobody in the compound. Madam and others are in Port Harcourt. Oga died there”, the guard stated.
At the home of Alamieyeseigha’s step mother, children were seen playing while the step-mother and other elderly women sighted declined to speak.
‘Alamieyeseigha was like a god’
Indigenes of the community were shocked by the news of the death of the man whom they see as a god due to his immense contribution to its development. The paramount ruler of the community, Chief Sharp Sogo, said, “When the sad news filtered into this community, everybody was not happy. Boys, girls, men and women cried. He was one of the best leaders we had in this community. He was like a father and grandfather to everybody.”
He said Alamieyeseigha had his last outing in the community when he came home with his political associates to strategise for the December 5 governorship election.
According to him, the former governor was a rallying point and a voice for the PDP which relied on him to win the election. “We can’t count the values he added to this community. They are too numerous to mention. Without him, there couldn’t have been Amassoma. He brought the university and constructed all the roads. Everybody took him like a god.”
The paramount ruler said Alamieyeseigha died without fulfilling some of the promises he made to the community, “It was obvious he was not through with the community yet. He promised that a shore protection project would be completed and many other things would be done to further develop Amassoma. We will greatly miss him,” he said.
“For many of us in Amassoma, he was like a God. We will indeed miss him. We pray that God Almighty will give his soul eternal peace.”
The monarch said Alamieyeseigha was hale and hearty a couple of weeks ago when he came to the community with his political associates with regard to the upcoming governorship election.
He said they did not have any inkling that the man they saw bubbling with life could die just like that.
Sogo added, “He affected many lives in the community positively that the gap created by his exit will be difficult to fill. Without him, Amassoma would have been desolate. To everybody in the community, Alamieyeseigha’s death has dealt a devastating blow to them. He had promised when he came last time that he and his political friends were coming this week. We have been waiting for them anxiously, now we have received the saddest news of all time.
We are in real pain and anguish.”
I am devastated—Alamieyeseigha’s nephew
Chief Yeritimi Femo, a nephew of the deceased, obviously still in shock, said,”I was devastated when I got the information that my uncle was dead. I was more devastated because I did not hear he was sick before getting the information that he died. He was everything to us. Up till now, I have yet to come to terms that he has died.”
Another nephew, Mike Femo, said the Alamieyeseighas had lost a good father, brother, husband and grandfather.
Friends and associates of the deceased have also continued to express shock over his death.
It is a big blow to Ijaw People—Bayelsa Elders Council Lamenting the sad development, the Bayelsa Elders Council, BEC, through its Publicity Secretary, Chief Thompson Okorotie, said, “We are deeply pained at this irreparable loss of a patriot, defender of the oppressed, the champion of resource control, crusader of the deprivation principle, the pioneer democratically elected governor of Bayelsa state.
“While we are still stunned by this devastating development, we remember this great Ijaw son who in his tenure as the governor of Bayelsa did so much in the education sector. He established the state owned Niger Delta University, granted massive scholarship to Bayelsans amongst other achievements.”
Alamieyeseigha, the Bayelsa Elders Council said, laid a solid foundation for the political and socio-economic development of Bayelsa, which succeeding governors have built upon.
Burial plan
Meanwhile, Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has announced the setting up of a committee to plan for the burial of Alamieyeseigha.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said Dickson constituted the committee at an enlarged emergency State Executive Council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa.
Other members include the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kombowei Benson (Vice Chairman), and Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Edmund Alison-Oguru (Secretary)
The governor promised that Alamieyeseigha will be given state burial.
The committee has the state deputy governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, (retd), as the Chairman.

Boko Haram Group Begs President Buhari For Peace Talks!!! (Must Read) #NekxFresh
President Muhammadu Buhari has been
approached by a faction, as it named itself, of the deadly Boko Haram sect, seeking peace negotiations with Nigeria’s government.
Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesman, made this known in a statement, saying that efforts were under way to “ verify their claims” of having such power.
“A faction of the Boko Haram group came forward claiming to have the mandate to negotiate with the
government, ” he said.
Buhari’s government recently said it was not opposed to negotiations with the sect, which has killed thousands and left around 1.5 million people
evacuated during its insurgency.
Shehu added: “It is now left for them to show proof that they have the mandate, but they made it clear
that they are representing a faction of Boko Haram that wants peace.”
It should be noted that despite his earlier stance during the electoral campaign President Buhari has
recently said he is willing to hold talks with Boko Haram commanders for the rescue of more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted last year.
The insurgents have killed more than 600 Nigerians in a spate of bombings and shootings since new president was sworn-in on May 29.
President Buhari will visit Cameroon on July 29-30 as part of efforts to cooperate with countries with which
Nigeria shares borders.
It would be recalled that efforts to reach a peace agreement by the previous government of Goodluck
Jonathan failed as Boko Haram denied holding any talks with government.

Man Falls From Balcony Of 17th Floor And Survives (Photo, Video)

A man who fell from a 131-ft (39.9m) balcony
during a party and survived, tells his story.
Experts say that Sebastian Reyes survived to tell the
tale is a miracle, one for which he should be thankful.
Reyes said: “I felt the fall, but nothing else. I woke up
in hospital.”
According to Metro UK, it was a huge 40 metre fall
from the 17th floor, a fall which included smashing
through the roof of a parking unit. However, despite
the massive fall, Reyes only suffered leg and pelvic
fractures.
Reyes, who lives in Rancagua, Chile, credits the lucky
escape to his tattoo.
The ink – on his forearm – reads: ‘God don’t abandon
me’ or ‘Dios no me abandones’ in Spanish.
Reyes recalled earlier in the evening he had been
watching a Copa America football game and headed
to a club with friends.
They returned to the apartment after clubbing, where
he fell from the balcony in the early hours, by Reyes’
memory is understandably foggy.
He added: “I don’t remember, [I came back around]
around 6.30am or 7.00am.”

Ex Militant Group MEND leaders regroup Saturday in Bayelsa (Tompolo)

WARRI- LEADER of the defunct Movement for the
Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, MEND and High
Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo,
yesterday, summoned commanders and leaders of
the various wings of the militant group to an
emergency meeting, tomorrow(Saturday) in Yenagoa,
Bayelsa State.
He did not state agenda of the meeting, but Tompolo,
who is the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw nation, in the
invitation, said the meeting, which will hold at Izon
House, Yenagoa, was important.
His words, “My dearly beloved Commanders and
Leaders of various wings of the Movement of the
Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), I greet you
all. It is my pleasure to humbly invite you to a very
crucial and urgent meeting…”
As Reported by Vanguard, A source said “The place of the Niger Delta
in the administration of President Muhammadu
Buhari and appraisal of the former President
Goodluck Jonathan government in view of the current
happenings in the country will be tabled for
discussion at the meeting.”
He added, “The meeting is restricted only to those
invited, it is not an all comers meeting, we will make
our position known after the meeting.”
Tompolo and other ex-militant leaders officially
disbanded MEND after they accepted amnesty
offered them by the administration of former
President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2009.
But, a faction of MEND, which did not accept amnesty
continued to operate the militant group and stated
their disapproval of Jonathan government, but it was
obvious that the moving forces behind the group had
abandoned it.
Tomorrow’s meeting is the first time all the former
commanders and leaders of the militant group are
meeting formally since it was disbanded in 2009.

Boko Haram Take Down Surveillance Plane In Borno #Nekxfresh
Last week a military plane allegedly carrying
foreign mercenaries was shot down by suspected
Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state. However,
this news did not make headlines.
Investigations by Sahara Reporters threw a little
more light on the incident. Below, read what we know
and what we do not know at the moment.
1. Who was on board?
Five Ukrainian mercenaries and a Nigerian pilot were
allegedly on board. The foreign soldiers did not
survive, while the pilot reportedly suffered critical
injuries and might be alive.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Abuja did not comment
on the issue, and recommended enquirers to contact
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Ukrainian
capital, Kiev.
2. What was the purpose of the flight?
The aircraft was most likely a surveillance plane that
was carrying out reconnaissance and photographing
over Sambisa forest, a notorious stronghold for the
Islamist Boko Haram sect.
3. Do the terrorists really have anti-air
capabilities?
The plane was most-likely hit by a ZU-23-2 twin anti-
air gun. It is capable of engaging low-flying targets at
a range of 2.5 km. Terrorists possess many of them,
and can shoot a plane easily, especially during take
off and landing.
4. What the Nigerian military have to say
The spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force,
Comodore Alonge, said he was not aware of the
crash.
The spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Colonel S.K
Usman, promised to reply later, but he had not done
it for more than 48 hours after the initial request.
Two other officials at the Defence headquarters in

The General Overseer of Christ Embassy Church,
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, is reportedly in a fresh
crisis.
This is following his inability to pay the salaries of his
church workers who earn their living with Infinity
Media, a communication outfit owned by his church.
Christ Embassy Church, will on Thursday take to the
streets of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, to protest
the non payment of their salaries. According to PM News, the workers are accusing
some top pastors of the church of playing politics
with their salaries, while blaming Pastor Ifeoma
Chiemeka for refusing to approve the payment of
their arrears.
The Pastor is said to be following a directive that was
issued by the Head Pastor and President of Believers
Loveworld, Pastor Oyakhilome.
The aggrieved workers stated that in December 2014,
some of them were re trenched and paid off while a
few that remained were overworked and also denied
their salaries which prompted them to petition the
Lagos State Mediation Centre in April 2015 for
intervention.
The workers also alleged to have sent Pastor
Adegoke Adebayo and Pastor Ike Nnoli to represent
them at the Mediation Centre and the parties agreed
to meet again on May 22, 2015 after the workers
might have been paid.
But the pastors refused to honour the agreement and also failed to show up at the adjourned date, a
situation which has infuriated them and they (the
workers) have now resolved to go on a peaceful
protest on Thursday this week to draw the attention
of Oyakhilome and Nigerians to their plight.
The controversial pastor, who was involved in a
divorce mess with estranged wife Anita, over
allegations that the clergyman was involved in
extramarital affairs, has reportedly settled the
impasse between them.

interested in the service of Orlando Pirates and
Bafana Bafana striker Kermit Erasmus saying that the player did not impress them.
South African media reported on Tuesday that the
Egyptian giants moved to sign the Port Elizabeth-born striker.
“The talks about negotiations with Kermit are
completely untrue , to be honest he did not impress
us in the match , add to that if we signed him we
would not be able to use him in African

Davido has responded to reports the NDLEA are
trying to investigate his ”Fans Mi ”video with Meek
Mill. It was reported the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency through the Director of Public
Affairs, Mitchell Ofoyeju told Punch they are
conducting a full-scale investigation into the making
of the video and an investigative panel might invite
Davido for questioning.
A fan asked Davido to clarify and he simply said
‘Nothing”..

“I am aware that a panel is working on it (the
video). The panel was set up soon after the video
was released few weeks ago. When our attention
was drawn to it, we viewed it and we discovered
that it was improper. There is no moral lesson in
it and he was just advertising drug trafficking.
“In the video, he exchanged a brief case
supposedly containing narcotics for dollars. He
was displaying affluence in the video. If it (the
plot) had climaxed in an arrest and possible
detention, we would have congratulated him for
partnering with us. But the way he portrayed drug
trafficking in the video was a means to an end,
which the end is a life of affluence which we
disagree with.” he said.
“We are looking at the issue holistically. We
believe that there should be a body that was
supposed to censor videos before they go out.
Those are the things we want to investigate and
verify. Was the video submitted for approval? If it
was submitted, why was it approved, with such
content?” he concluded
