The annual Rivers State Carnival, Carniriv will not hold this year. The Special Adviser to Governor Wike on Religious Affairs, Winstop Iwo announced that Carniriv will be replaced by a praise event to be known as the Rivers Praise and Choral Night.
Bishop Iwo said that Carniriv showcases masquerades and idols and so cannot continue to
hold in the state. He said the Rivers and Choral Night will hold on December 19, at the Yakubu
Gowon Stadium.
The Rivers State Tourism Development Agency had already begun preparations for the 2016
edition of Carniriv, even running a logo and theme song competition which was advertised to the
public. The 2016 edition was to be the fourth Carniriv organized by Sam Dede, and his final one, according to his mandate as head of the Rivers State Tourism Development Agency.
What's your take on this development?

This is absolutely not acceptable, one of our problem is that we get so religious and forget so many viable, and sociocultural and microeconomic impact of the carnivals in the lives of the people. Well, what else do we expect from a bishop,
